Aleister Black is working on a unique project to document the deep lore and symbolism behind his wrestling persona. During his appearance on The Cody Tucker Show, Black revealed he is creating a coffee table book to explain the hidden meanings in his gear and vignettes.
“I’m working on a coffee table book where I’m going to have everything, kind of like, etched out and, like written out,” Black said. “Something for fans to really, kind of like digest in what all these costumes mean and what all the mask meant… why did I come up with that mask, and what did it mean?”
He hopes the project will secure his legacy. “Stuff like that, to me, lives beyond what wrestling is on its own. It’s something that you can go 50 years down the line and go, ‘Hey, why did he do that thing? Why these? Oh, wait, did He mean so and so?’… I wanted something that lives beyond me.”
Black also discussed the theatrical roots of his character, citing an interview with Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth as a major inspiration. “He mentioned that he used to go to shows like Alice Cooper… and he loved the theatrical aspect of it,” Black said. “And as time progressed, I just felt myself be drawn more and more to that, and I wanted that to be part of my craft.”
He noted that he would plant “Easter eggs” in his self-produced vignettes. “I would like add the tarot cards to my vignettes, and I would add all these, like little knots to occult things that I liked… the costumes started meaning more and more, the vignette started meaning more and more.”
