Aleister Black Reveals Scrapped “Dark Father” Plans for Cody Rhodes
Aleister Black shared details about his long-term character vision, which involves “corrupting” his opponents rather than just defeating them. On The Cody Tucker Show, Black discussed a specific storyline he pitched for Cody Rhodes that was intended to launch a “Dark Father” character arc.
“I had this whole dark father thing set up, which was going to lead a lot more into that,” Black explained regarding his 2020 run. After his initial release and move to another company, he brought the idea to Rhodes. “The first person I want to do that was Cody, so I explained the idea, and he was like, ‘No, that’s f***ing great. Let’s do that.'”
Black described the psychological nature of the feud he envisioned. “Let’s, get to the point where you make me do things, or it’s no longer about putting my shoulders on the mat. It’s about me of making you do all these things,” Black said. “Did you really think this was about putting my shoulders on the mat… I made you do this, I made you do that.”
He also applied this logic to a match against Adam Copeland (Edge), referencing a moment where he tried to turn the Hall of Famer violent. “There’s a particular match that I had with Adam Copeland, and the way we set it up was kind of trying to lure Adam to our side,” Black recalled.
He detailed a specific spot involving a steel chair. “Adam has a chair in his hand… and the lights cut and the lights go back on. I’m standing next to Adam, and I’m telling him, ‘Do it. Do it, do it.’ And Buddy (Buddy Matthews) gets on his knees and puts his hands behind his back and just smiling, because all we wanted to do is to prove that we can, you know, we can corrupt people.”
