Alex Shelley of The Motor City Machine Guns recently disclosed that he had a WWE contract offer in 2019 but chose to turn it down due to the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. He and his long-time tag team partner, Chris Sabin, eventually signed with WWE in 2024.
Speaking with CBSSports.com, Shelley explained his 2019 decision: “I had tabled a WWE contract offer because of the pandemic. I was too scared to sign a wrestling contract because the entertainment industry was so up and down. I didn’t know what was going on. Nobody in the world did.”
When The Motor City Machine Guns finally joined WWE in 2024, Shelley cited WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque as a significant factor. “We talked directly to Paul [Levesque], Triple H, and he treated us with the utmost respect,” Shelley stated.
He emphasized their desire to work under Levesque’s leadership: “A huge factor in our decision was wanting to be players on his team. We wanted to be a part of the WWE machine, specifically with him leading the charge.”
