During a media scrum in New York City ahead of SummerSlam, WWE Superstar Alexa Bliss gave a candid assessment of her unlikely partnership with Charlotte Flair, admitting that while they are “not friends,” their shared goal is to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. She also opened up about how becoming a mother has given her a powerful new motivation in her career.
An Unlikely Alliance with a Common Goal
When asked by Emily Mae of WrestlingNews.co how she is preparing to team with Flair, Bliss was brutally honest about their relationship. “I think it’s for me and Charlotte, it’s getting on the same page, right? Because… we’re not always on the same page,” she said. “So I think for us, it’s getting on the same page, understanding that, no, we’re not friends, but we could be champs, you know? And so I think we both have the same common goal, and we’re both super competitive.”
An “Annoying Little Sister” Dynamic
Bliss described their on-screen friction as a fun, “sisterly dynamic” that has been enjoyable to explore. “I’m kind of like the annoying little sister. And she’s the older sister that is, like, annoyed at all times,” she explained. “Um, isn’t it fun? And just playing off of each other and see where it goes.”
A New Motivation
Bliss, who returned to WWE earlier this year after giving birth to her first child, spoke about how motherhood has profoundly changed her drive as a performer. “Oh, it’s the best. It’s this extra driving force that, you know, I thought I had drive before, but now it’s, it’s tenfold,” she revealed. “Because, you know, you have this little human that you’re providing for and being a role model to… and also, I need her to think I’m cool one day, so I’m like, the more that she can be ringside, and I can get video of that being like, ‘Look, you don’t remember now, but at one point, your mom was cool.'”
A Low-Key Party and a 2000s Playlist
Despite being part of “the biggest party of the summer,” Bliss admitted her ideal party is much more low-key. “Honestly, on the couch, ordering Postmates in my comfy cozies… In my Bucky pajamas, watching Friends,” she said. To get pumped up for her matches, she relies on a playlist of 2000s music. “I’m stuck in the 2000s,” she admitted. “I love, you know, My Chemical Romance. I love Bowling for Soup, Good Charlotte, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys.”
Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair will challenge Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam, streaming live tomorrow, August 2. The event airs exclusively on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network everywhere else.
