It appears WWE’s acquisition of top talent from Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide is continuing. According to a report from Cassidy Hays of BodySlam.net, AAA star Octagon Jr. has signed a contract with WWE.
Sources close to Hays claim that the luchador has been informing people that he is working his final dates and fulfilling his current commitments before officially joining WWE. He will reportedly not be accepting any more independent bookings moving forward.
Octagon Jr. has already made an impression on WWE fans. He was a featured performer at the recent WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, where he competed in the opening six-man tag team match. Following his team’s victory, he had a physical confrontation with Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio. This led to a title match between the two later that same evening at the Money in the Bank premium live event, where Mysterio ultimately retained his championship.
The reported signing of Octagon Jr. follows news that another top AAA star, Psycho Clown, is also WWE-bound. They join a growing list of AAA talent reportedly under WWE contract since the partnership between the two companies began, including El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., El Hijo del Vikingo, La Parka, La Hiedra, Lady Flammer, Lady Maravilla, and Niño Hamburguesa.
According to AAA’s Konnan, WWE’s “end game” for the Mexican promotion is to secure a television deal for AAA in the United States.
