Many of you who watch WWE SmackDown may notice that there’s a renewed effort to push younger talent or talent that hasn’t been given much of a chance before.
Otis got a clean win over Rey Mysterio on this week’s episode of SmackDown during a tag team match. It was Rey and Dominik Mysterio losing to Otis and Chad Gable after Otis pinned Rey after hitting his big splash. Otis and Gable turned heel last week.
Meanwhile, Apollo Crews was given time for an in-ring promo on this week’s SmackDown. He talked about how he’s been nice and humble but he hasn’t received the same respect. Crews said that he’s not “from the hood” or “from suburbia” but he is a real African American. During his promo, he talked about his ancestry and said “this is who I am, this is who I represent.”
Crews said the colors he wears represent “wealth, dominance, and power” and Big E found that out last week. His promo was interrupted by Shinsuke Nakamura, who was scheduled for a match with Crews. Crews won by pining Nakamura and it looks like Crews vs. Big E for the Intercontinental Championship will be booked for WrestleMania.
Others who have been pushed in recent weeks are Nakamura and Cesaro. You can credit Daniel Bryan for this because he is part of the creative team and he’s been lobbying to give more TV time to certain wrestlers who have been underutilized over the years.
