Despite the announcement on this week's WWE Main Event, the company has pulled back on Asuka defending the SmackDown Women's Championship against Becky Lynch.
WWE had Paige go on Twitter to give a storyline explanation:
"Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end...but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops"
Given the fact that a video was created with the match graphics, it looks like the match is in their plans. It seemed odd that they would announce the match on a C show that airs domestically on Hulu with far less viewership.
Perhaps the company wants to "officially" make the match on Tuesday's SmackDown Live.
Royal Rumble 2019 is set to take place at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ on January 27.
