Backstage news on Dean Ambrose’s WWE departure, how much money he turned down

WWE has announced releases on their website in the past but it’s been rare in the last couple of years so that is why some people in the company believe that Dean Ambrose giving notice is a work.

Backstage at Raw on Monday, creative did not know and most of the wrestlers had not known about Ambrose giving notice. All signs point to this story being legitimate and Ambrose will be a free agent in April.

Dave Meltzer reported this week that Ambrose turned down a $1 million per year downside guarantee. That means that he would have been paid a minimum of $1 million per year but he would have made much more because of merchandise money, bonuses and whatever comes in from the WWE 2K games.

Meltzer noted that he is friends with Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks but he hasn’t spoken with AEW. At least not yet. If Ambrose wants to continue wrestling then AEW would definitely want to work out a deal.

It’s worth noting that Ambrose has said publicly on Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast that he is not a fan of hokey promos and it kills him to have to do scripted promos. He also didn’t seem to be of the Lunatic Fringe monicker and the quirky character given to him by the company.
