As you know by now, Bill Goldberg is back in WWE for the foreseeable future. It’s crazy because Goldberg and WWE had not been on the best of terms over the years and Goldberg’s asking price is very high. When they finally made the deal to bring Goldberg back, the plan was for just the one match at Survivor Series and Brock Lesnar was originally supposed to win.
But why did WWE finally do business with Goldberg? The scary dip in ratings caused them to reconsider things and that meant scrapping the original idea for Lesnar at WrestleMania. Although there were people trying to stick with original plans, ultimately Vince McMahon decided that Goldberg vs. Lesnar was better than their original idea. Things could still change but that is now the plan.
The company has done an excellent job at booking Goldberg this time because they realized that the WCW Goldberg is much better than the WWE Goldberg from 2003-04. The announcers were told to call the match as a fight because the feeling was that the audience had seen enough UFC to know that a fight can end quickly and it can be short and explosive.
I noted on Sunday that Lesnar and Goldberg are friends so Lesnar was likely very happy to put him over especially if it meant a big money match at Mania.
