If you think Vince McMahon has learned his lesson from the horrible ending to the Hell in a Cell main event, then you thought wrong.
As noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was confirmed by multiple people in WWE that Vince McMahon was seen laughing about the crowd reaction for the ending of Seth Rollins vs. Bray Wyatt.
For those of you that missed it, there were loud “AEW” and “refund” chants at the end of the show and louder “we want refund” chants after the show went off the air.
So it’s clear that even though fans were not happy with how the show ended, McMahon did not see it as a negative. I was told by a company source that McMahon saw this as a chance to build on the feud and he was just happy to see that fans were passionate one way or the other about what was scripted.
There were other ideas batted around on the finish of the match but that is what McMahon decided on. Perhaps, McMahon felt different about it by the time Raw came around because they tried to minimize the talk about that match on Raw. They first reference to the Hell in a Cell main event came late in the show instead of early in the show as usual.
Meltzer noted that the Hell in a Cell main event ended the way it did because McMahon didn’t want to beat Wyatt so early while keeping the title on Rollins. McMahon also wanted Rollins, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair as his main champions going into the WWE Draft.
