John Cena made his big WWE return at Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view event after Roman Reigns retained the Universal Title over Edge in the main event.
Cena came out to a massive pop then had a staredown with Reigns, which was done to start the build of their match at next month’s SummerSlam. Cena told fans after the show went off the air that this appearance wasn’t a one-off. It’s already been announced that Cena will kick off tonight’s episode of Raw.
Fightful Select reports Cena is being treated as a free agent and will appear on upcoming shows without brand limitations. Thus, that’s the reason he will be opening Raw.
It was said that by Sunday afternoon, the secret was well out backstage that Cena would be appearing on the broadcast.
Cena will star in a new movie titled, “Argylle,” which starts filming in Europe this August with the release date being sometime next year. It was previously reported that the movie wouldn’t impact WWE’s plans for Cena and the main event match with Reigns at SummerSlam.
Fightful noted that Cena won’t be required to be on set to film his scenes until after SummerSlam.
