WWE is giving Samoa Joe a chance to shine as a main eventer on the main roster but his role at the top of the card after the Great Balls Of Fire pay-per-view depends on the fan reaction. As Dave Meltzer has been reporting for weeks, the Joe vs. Lesnar feud is meant to be “one and done” because Lesnar is scheduled to move on to a feud with Braun Strowman. On Monday morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer noted, “Joe’s not winning the title unless they have a complete change of heart.”
However, if the company feels that there is momentum behind the feud then they might want to do a series of matches. If there is enough interest in this feud then perhaps the company will want to book more matches between Joe and Lesnar, perhaps after the Lesnar/Strowman feud is done. If there isn’t a ton of interest in Joe as a top guy against Lesnar, then he could end up being used as a sacrificial lamb to put more heat on Lesnar ahead of the feud with Strowman.
This week’s Raw rating won’t mean so much because of the NBA Finals but the 7/3 Raw rating will mean a lot. That will be the go-home show for the Great Balls Of Fire pay-per-view and Lesnar is scheduled to appear. I would suggest to everyone that wants to see Joe given a real shot at being a top guy in WWE, to watch the segments that he is involved in.
