Backstage News On Roman Reigns’ Storyline Injury Angle

Roman Reigns came up short in punching his ticket to WrestleMania 41 to challenge for a World Title as he was eliminated from the Royal Rumble in a sequence with Seth Rollins. After trading words with CM Punk, Rollins hit two devastating curb stomps to Reigns.

This set up the triple threat match with the three stars for Mania. This week on WWE Raw, Michael Cole revealed Roman Reigns will be “out of action for the foreseeable future.” While there was speculation Reigns was hurt, there’s been no indication of that. Instead, it was storyline-driven as it was a way to write Reigns off TV with him making a big return to TV to get revenge.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the angle was also done to keep Reigns out of the Elimination Chamber since he wasn’t winning anyway and would have to be pinned or submitted in the bout. WWE usually doesn’t have its top babyface stars get pinned unless there is a major storyline reason to do so.

It’s unclear exactly when Reigns will return to WWE TV, although they have plenty of time with Mania, which will happen in mid-April.
