Backstage News on Ronda Rousey’s WWE Status Ahead of SummerSlam

Ronda Rousey returned to WWE for her second stint with the company at the 2022 Royal Rumble event, where she won the Women’s Royal Rumble match. Since then, she has been used as a top star with a run as a singles champion and also a tag team champion.

Rousey & Shayna Baszler lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez at the WWE Money in the Bank premium live event when Shayna attacked Rousey from behind and then choked her out. Morgan and Raquel won the bout after they hit their finisher.

This set up their feud as Rousey wanted to give back to Shayna for getting her into the business before she took another hiatus from WWE. As previously reported, there is a hard out date on Rousey’s current WWE deal.

Rousey meets Baszler in an MMA Rules match this Saturday at SummerSlam. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Rousey is going away relatively soon.

Meltzer wrote, “It’s not confirmed whether this is Rousey’s last match in WWE for the time being, but her departure is coming relatively soon since they had to rush the turn angle. We do know the reason nothing was announced is because they hadn’t settled on exactly what MMA rules means.”
