Backstage News On Shinsuke Nakamura’s WWE SmackDown Return

Shinsuke Nakamura made his return to WWE television by appearing on this week’s episode of SmackDown.

Nakamura hasn’t worked a TV match since April 22nd, when he put over Sheamus on WWE Raw. Since then, he has worked dark and house show matches. He last worked the European tour in late August ahead of Bash in Berlin. WWE reportedly didn’t have any creative plans for him on television and wasn’t using him. Thus, he was simply kept off television.

On the show, LA Knight successfully defended his WWE United States title against Humberto. Post-match, Nakamura attacked Knight from behind.

Fightful Select reports Nakamura’s return had been planned for a number of weeks. It was added that he was not listed on internal rundowns but was on the script.

It’s unclear exactly when WWE plans for Nakamura to challenge Knight for the US Title.
