Backstage news on the two lead writers released by WWE

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are more details on WWE’s decision to let go of two of its writers, Steve Guerreri and Steve Oppenheim.

As previously noted, this was not a decision made by Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman and this was something that was in the works for a while.

Oppenheim worked in Stamford, CT since 2011 as the home team writer. The home team writers work at the company headquarters and don’t travel with the crew to live events. Guerreri worked with the company since 2012 and was well respected but was taken off the road a few years ago after he had a falling out with Vince McMahon.

When Brian James was feeling the pressure to get off the writing team as one of the SmackDown Live lead writers, Guerreri was kept on the team until they could start with a new structure. Oppenheim was the home team writer for Raw and was with all of the changes coming to the brand, he was one of the first people to be let go.
