Backstage news on uneasiness within WWE NXT UK

There is a lot of uneasiness within the WWE NXT UK brand right now.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the uneasiness stems from two sets of NXT UK TV tapings being canceled on August 9.

Talent was told that the tapings were canceled due to BT Sports Studios being used for soccer coverage. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, this has been where WWE tapes the shows.

The reactions among wrestlers have been somewhat negative, with the feeling that you could tape somewhere else, and shutting down tapings is never a good sign.

Warner Bros. Discovery and BT came up with the idea to create a sports joint venture in the UK and Ireland. However, even if they own the station, they may be contractually not allowed to air AEW programming.

In the majority if not all television deals, WWE has a clause that says the network is not allowed to air any other wrestling promotion on the same channel. One person involved in the negotiations noted that WWE insists on this clause in their contracts.
