The night of CM Punk’s return to WWE was received to a mixed response by not only those in the company, but fans as well.
Bad blood
Sure, there were Punk supporters in the company, but he had a lot of doubters considering the way he exited AEW. Punk also had those who didn’t like him from his original run that ended in 2014.
Punk’s return was kept top secret at Survivor Series, with only the main eventers knowing. The deal for him to come back was made ten days before he returned and something WWE officials continued to deny was happening because so few people know of Punk’s return.
The reaction
On a recent Pwinsider Elite show, Mike Johnson said people backstage at WWE, even those who don’t like him, said he’s been pleasant backstage by being jovial, relaxed, happy, and joking with people. Although the angry person that Punk was during his first WWE run could emerge as the honeymoon period wears off, he has been great to everyone thus far.
As previously reported, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins’ reaction, where he flipped off Punk and cursed him out at Survivor Series, was storyline-related as they’re slated to feud.
