Backstage news on what WWE had originally planned for Asuka at WrestleMania

As of now, it looks like WWE does not have plans set for Asuka at WrestleMania 35. On TV, there are no obvious hints for her match.

As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan a few weeks ago was for Asuka to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans. The match was officially listed internally for WrestleMania but it was taken off the card for some reason. Evans is well-liked by Vince McMahon and the word on her is that she will get a major push after WrestleMania because she is seen as someone who can be a major star for the company and she is someone that will do well during mainstream media appearances.

There is speculation that WWE is building towards Asuka defending the title in a Triple Threat Match against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. They have been teasing a split between Deville and Rose in recent weeks and Asuka has not gotten a clean win against either woman on TV.

Here is a clip from the Deville vs. Asuka match from SmackDown Live and scroll down for the updated list of WrestleMania matches and rumored matches:
