The Undertaker making a surprise appearance that will lead to another match was one of the big news stories this week.
With WWE dealing with a decline in viewership numbers and attendance, there was some speculation that WWE did this as a reaction that those problems. It turns out that this was something that wasn’t a last minute decision.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “Undertaker’s return for this show is not something that just came up this week based on bad numbers, as it was planned before Super Showdown.” It was noted that it’s unknown whether this is an angle that will lead to something at SummerSlam. Meltzer added, “but it makes no sense to use him on Extreme Rules and not SummerSlam.”
On Monday’s Raw episode, Taker made the save for Roman Reigns. WWE later announced that Undertaker and Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre would be taking place at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event on Sunday, July 14th, 2019.
