Last month when John Cena returned to WWE Raw, there was backstage talk that he would wrestle at SummerSlam. There were hints dropped by Theory on social media and all signs pointed to Theory vs. Cena in Nashville.
However, when Cena returned on Raw he indicated that he would not be wrestling anytime soon and he did not know when he would be returning to the ring. On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez said that the reason why Cena can't appear at SummerSlam is that he is currently filming "Peacemaker 2."
Just like The Rock, Cena's wrestling schedule depends on his TV and movie commitments. "Peacemaker 2" is one of the most successful shows on HBO Max.
Alvarez said the following on Wrestling Observer Live: "I can confirm that being filmed right now is Peacemaker 2 and John Cena is involved. He's working on Peacemaker 2 as we speak. I presume that's why there have been discussions of him doing SummerSlam but then he showed up on Raw to announce 'someday I'll be back. I don't know when, don't know where but I'll be back someday.' Apparently, he's filming Peacemaker and that's why he can't do SummerSlam."
If Cena's schedule is free in the first quarter of 2023, that could open the door for Cena vs. Theory at WrestleMania in Los Angeles.
