As most of you know by now, although Becky Lynch was pulled out of the WrestleMania main event by Vince McMahon, most expect that she will be added back to the match at some point.
There’s been some speculation online as to why McMahon pulled Lynch out of the match last night on Raw. On Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided some details on some of the planning for this storyline.
Meltzer said, “The interesting thing here is that a lot of people think that Vince is doing this because he is playing off the internet feeling that Charlotte is the company person and all that to get heat with people in that way. But in fact, that’s not the case. It was just the way the story was written before any of that stuff happened. So it wasn’t even that they were expecting it, it just worked out in their favor. This has been basically laid out from a long time back.”
There certainly appears to be a growing sentiment on social media that Flair is the “company person” in the storylines and it comes across like she is primed to be the corporate champion as The Rock was billed in 1998. Perhaps, the company will go in the Stone Cold (Lynch) and The Rock (Flair) direction but, as Meltzer noted, everything you’ve seen so far has been the plan for some time. There was talk of a Triple Threat Match back in December.
It will be interesting to see if Lynch gets involved in Ric Flair’s 70th birthday celebration in a couple of weeks to further the angle. Lynch and Charlotte Flair are advertised to wrestle each other at the Fastlane pay-per-view so that could be how Lynch gets back in the match.
