WWE announced this week that it has launched WWE ID, a program that will provide a pathway for independent wrestlers to join the company.
Some wrestlers will become WWE ID prospects, and several wrestling schools have been given WWE ID designation. Those schools include Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling, Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory, and Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Wrestling Academy.
On this week’s Pollock & Thurston, Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported the news. No names were revealed, but he thinks an announcement will be made at some point to make those names official.
It’s designed to run in parallel with their Next In Line (NIL) program, giving them a pathway to evaluate and recruit college athletes for potential WWE careers. Those under WWE ID contracts can work wherever they want without restrictions.
Thurston stated that WWE is currently only working with schools and not promotions. WWE does not provide financial support for those affiliated schools.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reports that WWE has been working on the launch of WWE ID off and on for several years, with Gabe Sapolsky overseeing it. This program will also let them send existing developmental talents to other training schools to gain further experience.
