Backstage news on AOP’s release from WWE

WWE announced on Friday afternoon that they had come to terms to release AOP (Akam and Rezar).

Before the departure, Rezar had been on the sidelines as he tore his triceps. They had also removed Akam from television due to his tag team partner being injured.

Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Rezar had just been cleared to return to action, which made the decision to release them even more surprising.

“Yeah, big surprise, nobody saw that coming. Rezar was just cleared. He tore his biceps and as soon as he was cleared, he was cut.”

Meltzer then talked about how he had written about a week ago how AOP wouldn’t be paired with Seth Rollins when they returned. He mentioned how Triple H and Paul Heyman wanted to make them like the Road Warriors. He talked about how both members of AOP are young and incredibly talented.

“Everybody was high on them, it surprised me, but you know again, it’s Vince [McMahon]. I don’t know what happened, maybe Vince thought they get hurt too often.”

It’ll be interesting to see more details come out about the decision made by the WWE Chairman. As of this writing, AOP has yet to comment on their future in the pro wrestling business.
