Speaking on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed Rollins is set for surgery and elaborated on the uncertainty surrounding his recovery timeline, particularly regarding his availability for WrestleMania.
Surgery Confirmed, Extent of Damage Unknown
Meltzer reiterated that surgery is definite for Rollins. “He’s having surgery. I mean, that’s 100%,” Meltzer stated. However, the full extent of the damage to his shoulder will not be clear until the doctors perform the operation. “When they open up, they’ll find out, like, they don’t know all the damage in his shoulder, and they will find out the damage when they open him up, and when they do the surgery, will have an idea,” he explained.
WrestleMania Hopes vs. Reality
This uncertainty directly impacts any potential timeline for his return, including whether he can make it back for WrestleMania next spring. Meltzer conveyed the company’s position while tempering expectations. “I guess the best way to put it is, they hope he’ll be okay for Wrestlemania. There’s no way of knowing one way or the other today whether he will be or not,” Meltzer said. What is certain is a lengthy absence. “But you know he’s out for months for sure, which we already knew,” he added.
Rollins’ injury has already significantly altered WWE’s plans. The scheduled World Heavyweight Championship match against CM Punk at the November 1 Saturday Night’s Main Event has been scrapped, and WWE is expected to announce its revised plans for the vacated title on Monday’s episode of Raw.
