A new report from the Wrestling Observer has revealed new details on the timeline of Brock Lesnar’s shocking return to WWE at SummerSlam, stating that he was legally cleared to return to the company four weeks ago.
WWE Legal Reportedly Cleared Lesnar Four Weeks Ago
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported on the timing of the decision to bring Lesnar back. “Four weeks ago, WWE Legal cleared him (Brock Lesnar),” Meltzer said. He speculated on the reasons for the clearance, suggesting that WWE’s legal team is either confident that the Janel Grant lawsuit will go to arbitration or that they are close to a settlement, which would make Lesnar less of a factor.
Return Kept Under Wraps
The report also provided a definitive reason for the cancellation of WWE’s traditional media press conferences over SummerSlam weekend. “I can tell you also factually that the reason they didn’t do the press conferences was because of this angle,” Meltzer stated, confirming that the move was made to hide the surprise of Lesnar’s return and avoid questions from the media.
Lesnar’s return, which was kept a closely guarded secret, saw him attack John Cena at the conclusion of SummerSlam. It is now expected that “The Beast Incarnate” will enter a program with Cena.
