Backstage News On WWE’s Decision To Book Drew McIntyre Vs. Jacob Fatu On SmackDown

Drew McIntyre versus Jacob Fatu is scheduled for tonight’s WWE SmackDown, but is designed to build interest in their WrestleMania 42 match rather than serve as a definitive blowoff between the two, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer wrote, “McIntyre vs. Fatu is scheduled for the 3/20 Smackdown show but it was described as something designed heighten interest in their Mania match.”

The WrestleMania card is coming together, including the two women’s championship bouts of Stephanie Vaquer versus Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship and Jade Cargill versus Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship. AJ Lee versus Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, Brock Lesnar versus Oba Femi, and McIntyre versus Fatu were also confirmed as WrestleMania 42 matches.

Tonight’s SmackDown airs at 8 p.m. EST on the USA Network from the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The show features Randy Orton addressing his assault on Cody Rhodes following last week’s heel turn, along with two championship matches.

Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga defend the WWE Tag Team Championships against Damian Priest and R-Truth, while Nia Jax and Lash Legend put the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against the Bella Twins.
