Backstage News On WWE’s Plans For IYO SKY At WrestleMania 42

With only 37 days remaining until WrestleMania 42, the creative direction for Iyo Sky has become a talking point among WWE fans. Sources indicate to Bodyslam that Sky is expected to be involved with her former Damage CTRL teammates, The Kabuki Warriors, as the event approaches. Internal reports suggest that WWE has intentionally avoided prolonged in-ring interactions between Asuka and Iyo Sky because their singles bout is currently the match scheduled for Mania.

While the singles match is the current plan, there is reportedly growing internal support for adding Kairi Sane to the contest. This would transform the bout into a triple threat match featuring three former members of the Damage CTRL faction. Asuka and Kairi Sane have been “barreling toward a split” for months, and a triple threat scenario is being discussed as a way to conclude their shared history on a grand stage.

Creative Shifts and Postponed Matchups

The decision to lock in an Iyo Sky match for WrestleMania follows several creative pivots during the early months of 2026. Sky was originally scheduled to face Women’s United States Champion Giulia on the February 20 episode of SmackDown, but the match was scrapped at the last minute. Reports later confirmed that WWE chose to postpone the bout to save it for a larger platform.

Sky recently faced a period of uncertainty after her tag team run with Rhea Ripley came to an end. The duo lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles to Nia Jax and Lash Legend on the February 27 SmackDown, and Ripley has since moved into a world title program against Jade Cargill.

WrestleMania 42 Women’s Division Outlook

WrestleMania 42 is scheduled for April 18 and 19, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The event is expected to feature a six women’s matches, which would be the highest count in the show’s history. The card is already taking shape with world title defenses for Jade Cargill and Stephanie Vaquer, as well as a rumored Intercontinental Championship clash between AJ Lee and Becky Lynch.
