A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has given the latest on the main event plans for WrestleMania 42 following an update on Seth Rollins’ injury status. According to Dave Meltzer, Rollins is expected to be sidelined for an additional three to four months, which may rule him out of the previously planned title match against Roman Reigns.
Rollins’ Recovery Timeline
Meltzer reports that while the option for a Rollins return at WrestleMania was initially left open, the latest timeline provided by Rollins himself makes that scenario highly unlikely.
“Rollins this week estimated being out three to four more months. WrestleMania is three-and-a-half months away,” Meltzer wrote. “The last time I asked about Mania and Rollins it was that the option was still open but it was far from a sure thing.”
Shifting Plans To Rhodes Vs. Reigns
With Rollins out of the picture for a world title match, the main event focus has reportedly shifted back to a familiar rivalry. Meltzer notes that the company is now looking at a rematch between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns as the top bout for the event.
“Rollins vs. Reigns, at the time for the title, was the planned main event of one of the nights, but obviously that as a title match is out the window and it’s looking like Rhodes vs. Reigns as the big match of the show,” Meltzer stated.
The potential Rhodes vs. Reigns matchup comes on the heels of a heated confrontation on last night’s SmackDown. Although the show ended with Drew McIntyre standing tall over Rhodes after setting up a “Three Stages of Hell” match for their title bout in Berlin, the long-term direction seems to point toward the “Original Tribal Chief” challenging the Undisputed WWE Champion in Las Vegas.
WrestleMania 42 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
