Bianca Belair lost her SmackDown Women’s Title to Becky Lynch at this year’s WWE SummerSlam in a short match as the returning star pinned her in seconds. Originally, Belair was supposed to defend the title against Sasha Banks, but “The Boss” wasn’t cleared to compete.
It’s been previously reported that WWE knew 8 days in advance that Banks wouldn’t be wrestling at the show, but kept advertising her for the bout as a way to make Lynch’s return even bigger. Vince McMahon made the call to put the belt on Lynch as a way to pop the fans. It was also been reported that there were plans for Lynch to make an appearance at the show, but then plans changed to working this match.
Fightful Select provided some details on how the talent reacted to the title switch and the way it was done. Those backstage said Belair appeared to be in good spirits once she came through the curtain and WWE officials applauded Belair’s attitude.
Regarding reactions from talent and staff, some people were mixed with genuine shock, to not being surprised. Belair is said to be known as a pro and makes the best out of every situation she’s put in creatively.
One person said they believe there is an actual plan in motion for this story. WWE is already advertising the next match between Belair and Lynch at an upcoming PPV event.
