Backstage WWE news on why the Hair vs. Hair stipulation was changed to a Career Match

As noted last night, the Hair vs. Hair stipulation for SummerSlam was changed on Friday afternoon, shortly before Friday Night SmackDown went on the air on FOX.

The Career stipulation caused fans to speculate that Sonya Deville wanted to leave the company because of the situation with her stalker and her legal case. Dave Meltzer provided an update on Wrestling Observer Radio on the reason why the stipulation was changed. Basically, Deville was going to get her hair shaved but her lawyer told her that it was not a good idea to do that since she needs to be at court.

Dave Meltzer said the following: “So the reason why they switched the stipulation from the Hair vs. Hair to the Loser Leaves Town was because her lawyer basically said that with this thing going on, it’s probably not a good idea to cut your hair and get your head shaved for court…so they did an impromptu Loser Leaves Town. Maybe because of the case she’s gonna take some time off. I know there’s other projects she was looking at doing. Obviously she’s gonna be back at some point.”

Based on a post-show backstage segment that was posted on WWE’s social media channels, it looks like Deville will be back but she seems to be teasing a new name/gimmick change. Click here for more on that story.
