Christian was revealed as AEW’s Hall of Fame-worthy talent signing that Paul Wight had promoted for Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view event. The former WWE star came out on the show to sign his multi-year deal with the promotion, but never said a word.
After making his in-ring return this past January at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, he didn’t come to terms with WWE on a new contract that would see him wrestle more going forward. Thus, he reached out to AEW President Tony Khan about a possible deal.
Fightful Select reports WWE talent weren’t aware for sure of the signing, but had their suspicions especially since he was absent from programming after the Royal Rumble.
“Higher ups in WWE told Fightful that Christian not being referenced on WWE TV wasn’t a coincidence and that while they were let down that Christian made the move, it was on the company for not having a contract locked down.”
It was stated that one talent spoke highly of Christian as a person and was happy if it makes Christian happy. It was added that several talent in AEW were aware of the signing ahead of the PPV event, but kept it a tight lipped secret.
