Backstage WWE Reaction To Vince McMahon’s 80th Birthday Party

A new report from Fightful Select has provided backstage details and reactions to Vince McMahon’s 80th birthday party, which took place last week in New York City and was attended by a number of current and former WWE stars.

A Private Vince McMahon Birthday Party

According to the report, the party was intended to be a very private affair, with attendees encouraged to only use the professional photographer on hand if they wanted pictures. The event only became public after photos emerged online, including one posted by Jerry Lawler, which he was later asked to delete.

The guest list included a number of high-profile names, such as The Undertaker, John Cena, JBL, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, The Miz, Maryse, Titus O’Neil, and Bruce Prichard. One attendee noted it was the first time they had seen McMahon in person in over two years.

The report also detailed the varying reactions from WWE talent. One talent who attended told Fightful, “a lot of people here still feel like they owe Vince something, even though he made his money back on them tenfold.” Another person admitted that there was a “moral conflict” in their decision to attend.

The Vince McMahon Legal Situation And WWE Reaction

The party took place as Vince McMahon and WWE are currently being sued by former employee Janel Grant for sexual assault, sex trafficking, and harassment. The report noted that many more talent were invited but chose not to go. The consensus among those who didn’t attend was that if they were in McMahon’s situation, he would have “fired them and never spoken to them again.”

There was reportedly “no official WWE involvement” in the party. Talent who asked a WWE higher-up if they could or should attend were told it was “their business.” Key figures such as Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Nick Khan were not in attendance.

The report also provided an update on McMahon’s physical appearance, with one attendee who hadn’t seen him in years noting that he “looked 80,” seemed “more frail,” and walked slower. The source also made it clear that there has been “no talk” of Vince McMahon returning to WWE in any capacity, and that sources at the top of the company have “no desire to bring him back.” The full report can be found on Fightful Select.
