Batista reveals Vince McMahon nixed Hell in a Cell idea for his WrestleMania 35 match

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista spoke about a wide range of pro wrestling related topics when he joined Chris Jericho’s podcast, Talk is Jericho.

During the interview, he talked about wrestling Triple H in a No Holds Barred Match at WrestleMania 35. Batista lost the match and announced his retirement just a few hours after the event.

This is where Batista noted that they originally wanted this match to be inside Hell in a Cell but WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon turned down their idea due to him not wanting the match type to not place anywhere else but the traditional HIAC PPV event.

“Originally, we wanted a have a Hell in a Cell but Vince, because of the pay-per-view, he didn’t want to have a Hell In A Cell, and we really wanted Hell In A Cell. They’re just great matches, they’re violent. We needed bells and whistles. We’re two older guys, we hadn’t wrestled in a long time and we needed the drama. We’ve already got the history, so we just needed the violence.”
