Charlotte Flair had a backstage confrontation with Becky Lynch on the October 22nd episode of SmackDown after their championship exchange segment where Flair was given the SmackDown Women’s Title and Lynch received the Raw Women’s Title. Flair reportedly claims she accidentally dropped the title before giving it to Lynch.
Flair wasn’t thrilled with WWE’s plan for the championship exchange segment and went to management to get it changed, but that didn’t work. Flair was later escorted from the venue during Lynch’s dark match to avoid any further issues. WWE has already announced Flair vs. Lynch in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series.
Lynch recently appeared on the SI Media Podcast and during it, she was asked about whether there is backstage heat with Flair. This is where she confirmed that she doesn’t talk anymore with Flair.
"I don’t know, man. We don’t talk anymore. We don’t talk. So all I’ll say is the locker room needs a hero sometimes. And sometimes somebody’s gotta be a hero. I’m all right being that hero. That’s what I’ll say on that matter."
Regarding whether having real-life heat with an opponent makes things more difficult, she said it does as when there are two people who want to work together to make magic, that magic is created.
“Sometimes when there’s hostility, when you can’t trust the person, then you never know what’s going to happen. You always have to be on guard.” She continued by stating that it’s a game of chess as you have to be thinking about several steps ahead to try to figure out what they’re going to do next.
Lynch said the business is built on trust and working together as that's the art of wrestling. She said if people don’t know how to make art then it becomes difficult and more tricky to get the full potential of it. On the flip side, there’s some curiosity about it as people wonder what’s going to happen.
After this, she gave quick statements regarding the following questions:
SI: Do you trust Charlotte Flair? Lynch: “No.”
SI: Are things difficult right now with Charlotte Flair? Lynch: “Yes.”
SI: Were you guys friends and no longer friends? Lynch: “We used to be best friends.”
After their confrontation, it was been reported that Flair is unpopular backstage in the locker room. Also, Sonya Deville, who was part of the segment, wasn’t happy with Flair to the point where she reportedly wanted to fight her.
