A few years ago, there were some in WWE who were vocal about women not being paid nearly as much as the men in the company.
It looks like WWE has been taking steps to correct those issues in the last couple of years because some of the women are making more than most of the men in the company and the deals are in the range of what some of the male main eventers are making.
Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Becky Lynch signed a new deal last year and it’s for $1 million per year. I was told that she signed the deal sometime around WrestleMania and she is not the only female WWE star to have gotten a pay raise. So, the talk from Lynch in storylines about her contract about to expire is just part of the angle to build her match with Asuka for the Royal Rumble.
I was told that Dana Brooke, Lana and Sasha Banks (among others) have also received significant pay raises. Now that women are being featured more prominently in storylines, they are showing that they can draw big ratings.
Lana’s segments with Rusev and Bobby Lashley have drawn above average numbers on most weeks and they draw huge numbers on YouTube. Lynch has been responsible for some of the highest-rated segments of 2019 along with Sasha Banks. Part of the reason for the big money offers is to keep them from going to AEW but there is definitely a realization in the company that the women deserve the pay raises they’ve been given because of their hard work.
