Becky Lynch Vs. Lyra Valkyria Title Match Set For WWE SummerSlam

The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship match for SummerSlam is now official. On tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley in a grueling 2-out-of-3 falls match to earn a one-on-one title opportunity against the current champion, her former mentor, Becky Lynch.

A Hard-Fought Victory

The match was a back-and-forth war that saw both women push themselves to the limit. Bayley scored the first fall just over a minute into the match with a surprise roll-up. Valkyria evened the score at one fall apiece after catching Bayley in another rollup at the nine-minute mark.

The final fall saw both competitors trade near-falls and high-impact maneuvers, including Bayley hitting a sunset flip powerbomb into the steel steps on the outside. In the end, Valkyria was able to counter a crossface attempt from Bayley, hoisting her onto her shoulders and hitting her “Nightwing” finisher for the decisive third fall and the victory.

A Tense Staredown

Following the match, the celebration for Lyra Valkyria was short-lived. The reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion, Becky Lynch, marched to the ring and stood face-to-face with her former protege. “The Man” held her championship high in the air as she and Valkyria traded trash talk, giving fans a preview of the intense championship match to come.

The one-on-one title match between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria will take place at WWE SummerSlam. The premium live event is scheduled for August 2nd and 3rd from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Click here for complete WWE Raw results.
