Bianca Belair became the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion when she defeated Sasha Banks last year on the first night of WrestleMania 37.
Belair had to endure some challenges during that reign, including losing her opponent in Bayley due to injury as they were supposed to wrestle at Money in the Bank.
Her reign as champion lasted until SummerSlam when she was supposed to wrestle Sasha Banks, who had to pull out due to not being medically cleared. Carmella took her place and was defeated. Moments later, Becky Lynch made her surprise return and quickly beat Belair for the title. At WrestleMania 38 earlier this year, Belair beat Lynch to become the Raw Women’s Champion.
As the Raw Women’s Champion, Belair has also had to deal with more changes as she was originally scheduled to face Rhea Ripley at WWE Money in the Bank, but Ripley got injured, which led to Carmella taking her place.
While speaking on the Corner Podcast, Belair reflected on her reign as the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
“No, it’s difficult, and it gets frustrating for me sometimes. Even with my SmackDown Title reign, I didn’t feel I was able to live up to the full potential as SmackDown Women’s Champion with how short the reign was, and also with my feuds. Bayley getting injured, which I can’t wait for Bayley to come back, Carmella having to step in at SummerSlam.
Not being able to have these amazing matches that I could have had in my title reign and being able to go up against other really really great competitors to prove that I’m champion, and then it getting cut short. Fast forward, it’s like deja vu. It’s happening all over again. My competitors that I’m supposed to have, I’m not having. So it gets frustrating, but I try to look at it as I have to adapt and it’s making me a better competitor and making me stay on my toes.”
Bianca continued by talking about how she’s always going to be there and be dependable for the company to show up and show out. She said that her main goal is to always be in the mix and be part of big moments.
