Big AEW Program Reportedly Stalls Out Ahead Of All In: Texas

A big program that was reportedly planned for AEW All In, involving a reunion between Cope and Christian Cage, has stalled. According to a report from Fightful Select, there were “major creative plans” in place for FTR following their heel turn on Cope, which were intended to eventually lead to Cope reuniting with his former tag team partner.

The report notes that Cope’s absence from AEW television was not planned to be this long. There were internal discussions about bringing him back at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view to kick off the feud with Christian Cage, which would have built towards a match at All In.

However, the creative direction was slowed down because Christian Cage was reportedly not ready to end his current storyline with The Patriarchy. It was noted that Christian wants to see the storyline through with Nick Wayne, as a lot of time has been invested in it.

The original plans for FTR’s heel turn were also different. They were first pitched to turn on The Outrunners last year, but the decision was made to have the turn happen against Cope when the opportunity for that match arose. As of now, there is no word on whether the plans for a Cope and Christian reunion are still in place for the future.
