During a live stream on Thursday, Big E officially confirmed that Rusev is returning to WWE. This development has reportedly been in progress for several weeks following the former AEW star’s release from that company.
Big E and Tyler Breeze hosted a Fanatics Live session at WWE World in Las Vegas. While opening packs of WWE trading cards, they pulled a Rusev card from 2017. At this point, Big E stated that Rusev had told him about his impending return.
“Someone that has just been announced to return. You didn’t see that? I reached out to him, and he confirmed that the news is indeed true,” Big E said. “I don’t know when he’ll be back, but there is Rusev. A blast from the past. And actually, this is very topical because he has just announced that he is returning to the squared circle here in World Wrestling Entertainment.”
Following reports of his AEW release, Rusev was reportedly spotted at WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, CT, preparing for his return. The exact timing of his reappearance is unclear, although many speculate that he could be revealed as Randy Orton’s surprise opponent.
