Big E On His Health: “I Feel Great. I’m Just Not In A Position To Be Cleared Quite Yet”

Big E is enjoying life outside of the ring after suffering a major neck injury that could’ve paralyzed him and has put his in-ring career in doubt.

Big E is still not medically cleared to wrestle after his neck injury on the March 11, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown when taking an overhead belly-to-belly suplex at ringside from Ridge Holland. The former WWE Champion landed on his neck and fractured his C1 vertebra and C6 vertebra.

Since then, he has worked in various roles for WWE, including as a talent scout, recruiter, media appearances, etc. As he points out, the positive thing to remember is that he can live his day-to-day life and be in the gym without compromising.

While speaking to Chris Vannini on Getting Over, Big E gave the latest update on his health. He said,

“Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, [or] any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.”

Big E noted that he didn’t think it was that bad until he got to the hospital as he wasn’t in any pain and he could move all of his hands and legs. He was initially told he would be good to go within three months, but the bone didn’t heal right.
