Big E says he pushed to wrestle a big name at WWE Crown Jewel

Big E is excited about the various matches he can have now that he’s a top singles star. Since winning the WWE Title in September, he’s defended the championship against Bobby Lashley and most recently Drew McIntyre at the Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

Originally, Big E had a different name in mind to wrestle at Crown Jewel and that was WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. It didn’t work out as Goldberg had been in a feud with Lashley since August and WWE had plans to run it back at Crown Jewel where Goldberg went over.

Big E recently spoke with SportsNet and during it, he talked about pushing for the match with Goldberg because of how important it would be to share the ring with him.

“I think the cool thing for me is that there are so many fresh match-ups because I have not been in that top role. We’ve been in a top act in many ways (with the New Day) but there are so many singles match-ups out there that are fresh for me. I was trying to make some noise for this Goldberg match at Crown Jewel, but that clearly (didn’t happen). It would have been really full circle. He was my childhood hero and idol, and I’ve spoken effusively about that.”

Big E just beat Kevin Owens in a non-title match on this past Monday’s Raw. The expectation is Big E will wrestle Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a non-title bout at Survivor Series as WWE traditionally does Raw vs. SmackDown matches.
