Big E shares angle that Vince McMahon nixed during Kofi Kingston’s main event rise

Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods looked back during a recent episode of The New Day: Feel The Power podcast on Kingston’s journey to the main event scene. In 2019, it started at Elimination Chamber and through WrestleMania where he would become a top star on the SmackDown brand.

Kingston picked up a big victory at WrestleMania 35 when he beat Daniel Bryan to win the WWE Title in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium on the WWE Network.

Big E told a story about an angle where he and Woods would confront WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon during the ‘KofiMania’ build heading into Mania.

Original plans called for them to tear up McMahon’s office out of anger over Kingston’s unfair treatment. However, those plans were changed.

“The plan was originally, and I was so excited for this, we legit kick in the door and tear [McMahon’s] office up, legit throw things over! I think he’s in the office, in the corner, we’re throwing tables over, and making quite a mess of his office, and just going on a rampage,” Big E remembered. “And had this visceral anger about what’s happening to Kofi.”

Big E would later talk about how WWE never told the story as to why the company was pushing the narrative that Kingston was a B+ player and not good enough to be WWE Champion. He also brought up the similarities that Kingston went through to Bryan’s journey in 2014.
