WWE is looking to expand its market share internationally, whether in Europe, Mexico, or Japan. They will need stars from those markets to do so in addition to their current crop of talent.
They company has a lot of interest in a star from NJPW as they have interest from NJPW and WWE, with expected interest from TNA and AEW. However, WWE won’t be able to sign them for a few more months.
The interest
As previously reported, there is massive WWE interest in Giulia, who won the New Japan Strong Women’s Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale. Despite the interest, the NJPW star is not allowed to sign with anyone, including WWE, until her deal is up in March.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Giulia has some sort of offer from WWE.
Where things stand
Meltzer wrote, “The Giulia stuff is far more serious as she has an “offer” and obviously Stardom and Rossy Ogawa are aware of it, and she’s close to Ogawa and did have a verbal agreement to work with him next year.”
If she goes to WWE and signs an NXT deal, then it could be matched by NJPW. If she signs a main roster deal, which starts at $250,000, that is more than “she can make in Japan by a wide margin.”
