A Raw vs. SmackDown tag team match has been announced for this Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, as Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will team up with Randy Orton to take on the powerhouse duo from The Vision, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. The match was announced by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis in a video posted to social media on Tuesday.
Aldis stated that he had reached an agreement Raw GM, Adam Pearce, to bring the two Raw superstars to the blue brand for the matchup. The match adds a big main event to what is shaping up to be a pivotal episode of SmackDown on the road to Crown Jewel.
“Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker seem to enjoy getting involved in other people’s business as of late. And having just wrapped up a phone call with my esteemed colleague, Adam Pearce over at Monday Night Raw, we agreed that they can get involved in my business this Friday night on SmackDown,” Aldis said in the announcement video.
The “other people’s business” he is referring to is the ongoing feud between Breakker and Reed’s stablemate, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, and Cody Rhodes. The two champions are set to face each other in a champion vs. champion match at the Crown Jewel premium live event in Perth, Australia, on October 11. The involvement of Randy Orton adds another layer of intrigue to the match. While Rhodes is currently embroiled in a feud with the entirety of The Vision, Orton has his own history with the group, having been a target of their attacks in the past.
This week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown will emanate from the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. With Crown Jewel now less than two weeks away, fans can expect more developments in the other major storylines on the brand, including the fallout from last week’s triple threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship.
