WWE continues to lock talent down to new deals, with a notable name being the latest to put pen to paper.
That star is Randy Orton. After being off WWE TV for over a year due to a serious back injury, Orton returned to WWE television as a babyface in November at Survivor Series by competing in the Men’s WarGames Match. Since then, he has worked with the likes of Logan Paul, The Bloodline, and GUNTHER. He is slated to challenge GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Title at Bash in Berlin.
Fightful Select reports WWE sources claimed Orton re-signed with WWE. He previously signed a five-year contract in 2019 that kept him, seeing him under contract through until late this year. Because Orton missed such time due to the injury, there was speculation that WWE would likely add more time to it.
However, internally, the word was that he had a new deal. It was said that Orton agreed to a new five-year contract that would have him under a deal until late 2029.
A higher-up in WWE was asked why WWE would sign him to a new deal instead of extending due to injury time, and the person stated, “not confirming that the did sign a new deal, but the guaranteed money associated with contracts now is a drastic shift from what it was in 2019. There have been changes to our live event schedule, touring, international dates, media obligations, merchandise and social media that would be much more fair to just reach a new deal in many situations.”
Orton and WWE have yet to comment on his contract status.
