Drew McIntyre is being pushed as the top babyface in WWE and he is set to defend his WWE Championship at Backlash on June 14, 2020. However, that title reign may not last past this summer.
As it was noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason why Bobby Lashley has MVP as his manager is that Paul Heyman wanted to give him a mouthpiece for a title run.
WWE has been pulling away from the Lashley and Lana storyline and pushing Lashley as a serious wrestler with his goal being that he wants to win a major title. This would indicate that a title change is coming. It doesn’t necessarily have to be at Backlash.
I was told that the Lashley-McIntyre feud will continue beyond Backlash and into the July pay-per-view and possibly into a stipulation match at SummerSlam so there is plenty of time to put the title on Lashley if that is the direction.
Another thing to note is that Lashley has been wanting a match with Brock Lesnar for years and Lesnar is expected back in time for SummerSlam.
