There seems to be a lot of smoke to those rumors circulating about Edge returning to the ring.
As previously noted, Edge said on his last podcast with Christian that he feels like could wrestle again and he feels good but he doesn’t know if he would get cleared by WWE. Edge has since left his podcast and rumors began to swirl that he may have signed a deal with WWE.
Last week, Dave Meltzer reported that Edge had indeed signed a deal with WWE after negotiations with another company. It was not said who else he was negotiating with but the best guess would be All Elite Wrestling. Meltzer also noted that there were private talks recently about Edge returning to the ring.
The latest on this story from PWInsider is that Edge was in Pittsburgh earlier today and he was flown there by WWE. Usually, when wrestlers are flown into Pittsburgh, it’s because they have been scheduled to see Dr. Joseph Maroon, the head of WWE’s medical team. Maroon would be the doctor to make the final determination on if he can be cleared to return to the ring.
Edge retired from the ring in 2011 after he was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. Doctors would not clear him at the time because the feeling was that he was risking paralysis or death is he took a bad bump.
The timing of all of this is interesting because WWE Crown Jewel is coming up on October 31st. If he returns to wrestle on that show then he would be in line to receive the biggest one-night payday of his life because WWE gets paid so much money from the Saudi Arabian goverment for that show. Stay tuned…
