One of the things talked about on social media after WWE Bad Blood was about the amount of blood in the Hell in a Cell match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. Blood was used frequently on WWE TV in the 90’s and early 2000’s, but for the most part, Vince McMahon has been against it, and in the last 20 years or so, there’s been an edict out for wrestlers not to blade themselves and anyone who did it could be subject to a large fine.
With Vince McMahon gone and Triple H being a fan of old school wrestling, blading is now allowed but for “key matches and angles,” as first reported by Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
At Bad Blood, the toolbox spot did damage to McIntyre but it wasn’t planned for McIntyre to bleed. Meltzer noted in the Observer that Punk was planned to bleed in the match but not McIntyre. Either way, expect to see blood in matches whenever it’s decided that it’s best for the storyline/match.
The blade edict is just one of many changes in WWE since Triple H took over. Expect to see even more changes when Raw moves to Netflix in January.
