Impact Wrestling World Champion and Bellator MMA heavyweight fighter Bobby Lashley is ready for his next MMA bout and has two names in mind. Lashley, who is coming off a second round rear-naked choke win over Josh Applet at Bellator 162 last October, recently spoke with The Sun about Fedor Emelianenko as well as former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
During the interview, he was asked about possibly fighting Emelianenko in Bellator MMA. He noted that when Emelianenko signed with Bellator MMA, he wanted to fight him but the promotion booked Emelianenko against Matt Mitrione. Emelianenko and Mitrione were supposed to fight this past weekend at Bellator 172 but Mitrione pulled out of the fight the day of the bout due to kidney stones. Lashley noted that it’s an important time for him and he wants a big fight whether that be against Emelianenko or for the Bellator heavyweight title, which is currently vacated.
Lashley has no problems facing Lesnar either but noted that Lesnar is not a member of the UFC roster right now. He noted that he told Bellator MMA President Scott Coker that he wanted to fight Lesnar but Coker told that he didn’t know about it. He then told Coker that he wanted to fight Emelianenko but Coker was unsure of that fight happening either. “I told him I have been calling and I want something. They’re both big paydays and I am not getting younger but right now I am in great shape.”
Keep in mind that the chances of that fight happening are slim due to Lesnar recently retiring from MMA after failing his drug tests that were collected on June 28, and July 9 for anti-estrogen drugs called clomiphene and hydroxy-clomiphene surrounding his fight at UFC 200. Also, Lesnar is still under contract with the UFC, and if he came out of retirement, he couldn’t sign with another MMA promotion until he completed his contract with the UFC.
